Duplicates: In different folders
We're sorry that your ibi appears to be duplicating content. Now that we've identified that the duplicates are in different folders there are a few ways to deal with them further. Below are a few steps to avoid having this issue from happening further. Identifying the root cause of your duplicates will help you make some decisions on how to best avoid them in the future.
If you need to visit how to identify the source or details about your duplicate you can find it here: Duplicates: Finding the source
Now, some common scenarios for seeing duplicates but they're located in different folders could be caused by the following:
Multiple iOS devices with the same iCloud account are automatically backing up to ibi
- To confirm, you should clearly be able to identify that one copy is from "______' iPhone Camera Roll Backup' and another from "________ iPad Camera Roll Backup" or similarly named folders.
- To fix this issue, keep your Autobackup ENABLED on the primary device and DISABLE all remaining secondary device's Autobackup. We call the main capture device, the one where you primarily take photos and videos from, as the primary device while all other devices are secondary.
- By DISABLING Autobackup in the ibi mobile app on your secondary device(s), you're only preventing duplicates from being automatically created in the future. The content on your iOS devices will till remain synced via iCloud and your camera rolls will automatically update without any interruptions.
NOTE: Before deleting or removing any content that were previously duplicated we ask that you carefully review to ensure that duplicates from the second source are truly duplicates. We recommend that you consider create a backup of this folder by either exporting to USB or using the desktop app to move the content incase you need to restore anything in the future. Once you delete something off of ibi, it is permanently deleted so please be sure before performing this action.
Content is stored in multiple storage locations which are set to backup to ibi
This is tricky scenario and require you to verify that the files are either exact copies or similar copies of the original content. To verify this further, you can check to see if the file name and resolution of the files are the same.
- If the file name, the resolution, and the size of the content are the exact same, then this is considered to be EXACT copies of the file.
- Identify the source and consider keeping one source backed up to your ibi
- If the file name, the resolution, and or the size of the content are not the same then you have SIMILAR copies of the file but one is a better version than the other.
ibi will always backup / import content in the original resolution available and never resize or compress during backup. If a content is smaller in size then that storage location / social or cloud provider made edits to your original file. We strongly recommend that you keep both copies of the file.
- If you feel that one of the duplicating sources is truly not a original location for content and is simply a second copy or a backup of the primary then you may safely turn off the backup / import from this source
NOTE: Before deleting or removing any content that were previously duplicated we ask that you carefully review to ensure that duplicates from the second source are truly duplicates.
